His Excellency Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, delivered an intervention at the Plenary Session of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79), calling for solidarity and equity in building resilient health systems.
Geneva: On 19 May 2026 at 15:00 local time in Geneva, Switzerland, corresponding to 20:00 in the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, delivered his intervention to representatives of 185 Member States during the Plenary Session of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79), held under the theme “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility.”
On this occasion, H.E. Minister highlighted Cambodia’s major achievements in strengthening the health system, particularly post COVID 19, as well as the Royal Government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2035.
H.E. Minister outlined several priority areas in the health sector, including:
1. Strengthening primary health care
2. Protecting populations from health risks
3. Preparedness and response to public health emergencies
4. Calling for stronger international solidarity
5. Supporting WHO reform
H.E. Minister emphasized that “Global health is at a crucial moment that will profoundly shape the future. The future of global health is local, equitable, and diverse.”
H.E. Minister’s participation and intervention at the Plenary Session of WHA79 demonstrated Cambodia’s responsible leadership and clear vision in contributing to global health, as well as its commitment to strengthening international cooperation to sustainably advance the goal of “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility”.
