His Excellency Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala, Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Western Pacific (WPRO), on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland.
During the meeting, H.E. Minister informed the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office of Cambodia’s continued and determined efforts to protect the health and well being of the Cambodian people, the region, and the global community. Cambodia’s contribution and commitment to achieving the global health goals of all Member States is indispensable.
Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala highlighted Cambodia’s exemplary leadership, strong commitment, and significant achievements along its Global Health Journey, particularly its progress in implementing Primary Health Care policies in the right direction, its success in combating various communicable diseases, and its near elimination of malaria, a disease that has claimed millions of lives. In particular, Cambodia’s leadership in advancing the “One Health” approach, following the participation of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the recent One Health Summit held in April, in Lyon, France.
During this significant meeting, H.E. Minister also presented Cambodia’s proposals for continued and enhanced support from WHO, particularly in advancing the One Health agenda; addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the context of climate change; implementing community based cancer prevention action plans; strengthening digital health and medical assistive technologies; and expanding technical cooperation in health data management, analysis, and use, with a focus on preventing and controlling infectious disease outbreaks.
